With the curtains drawn on the 2024–25 I-League season, the identity of the champion remains unresolved—an unprecedented situation in Indian football. Churchill Brothers finished atop the table with 40 points, while Inter Kashi were second with 39. However, the title race is under review due to a disputed match from January 13, when Inter Kashi lost 0-2 to Namdhari FC. They later claimed Namdhari’s Cledson Carvalho da Silva (Degol) was ineligible due to suspension from four yellow cards. Initially, the AIFF Disciplinary Committee awarded Kashi a 3-0 win, pushing them to 42 points.
But Namdhari appealed, and the decision was stayed, returning Inter Kashi to 39 points. Kashi, in turn, have appealed again, and the AIFF Appeals Committee is set to rule on April 28—22 days after the final matchday.
Both clubs have celebrated as champions. Churchill Brothers, a storied Goan club, believe they’ve sealed promotion to the ISL. Meanwhile, Inter Kashi, only in their second season, have posted title-winning celebrations in West Bengal. The outcome hinges on whether Degol’s yellow in a match where he also saw red is officially counted. Until the AIFF decides, Indian football’s second division remains without a crowned winner.
