Sri Lanka reigned supreme with the ball once again in the second T20I to bowl out the Kiwis for a paltry 108 under the lights after opting to field first. Wanindu Hasaranga wreaked the most havoc with four scalps while Matheesha Pathirana clinched three of his own but it was Nuwana Thushara’s new ball heroics that set up the foundation for the hosts’ success.
Handed the new ball by skipper Mitchell Santner, Thushara steamed in from over the wicket to Tim Robinson and with his sling arm action delivered the ball from close to the stumps despite landing much wider. The shiny white rock drifted with the arm towards the leg before swinging away sharply and pitched perfectly in the blockhole to beat the Kiwi opener’s last-ditch attempt before sending the off-stump cartwheeling.
Thushara replicated his heroics with the first ball of his next over to get the better of Robinson and finished with figures of 2/22.
