Guyana got a shaky start when Rahmanullah Gurbaz fell cheaply in the first over. However, Azam Khan steadied the innings with a quickfire 25 off 14 balls. With the score at 56/1, the Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed, but Shai Hope, in fine form, continued to anchor the innings. Alongside Shimron Hetmyer, he pushed the score to 159/2 by the 14th over. However, Hetmyer’s promising knock ended, thanks to a brilliant catch by Rovman Powell.
On the fourth ball of the 15th over, Keshav Maharaj dished a fuller ball angled outside the off stump. Hetmyer saw the opportunity coming and swung his bat powerfully, aiming for a big shot over the mid-off region. However, he mistimed it, resulting in a leading edge that sent the ball toward mid-on. Powell, stationed at mid-on, quickly assessed the situation and sprinted at full speed towards the ball. Timing his dive perfectly, he caught the ball with both hands just before it hit the ground. Powell’s athleticism and quick reflexes not only removed the dangerous Hetmyer but also earned him well-deserved applause from his teammates.
