‌WATCH, BGT 2024 | Kohli’s hawk-eyes help umpire locate lost ball in pocket

Grassroot coaching sets the fundamentals of sports, instilling the importance of watching the ball closely in the minds of aspiring cricketers. Indian great Virat Kohli seemed to have followed the lesson well as he was seen reminding the onfield umpire where the ball was hidden at the SCG.

Despite the toss going in their favour in the do-or-die encounter against Australia, India lost their openers early on the opening day. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul failed to gleam with the bat as Scott Boland and Mitchell Starc got the better of them respectively. With Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli trying to negate the Aussie pace attack, the former Indian skipper was seen helping the officials in locating the lost Kookaburra.

As Boland geared up to bowl to Gill in the morning session, the ball was seen missing from the bowler’s hand. The on-field umpire was bemused and asked where the ball was. Kohli, stationed at the non-striker’s end, told him it was right inside his pocket. Soon, the umpire realized his brain-fade moment and handed it to the bowler for play to resume. At the end of day two, Australia are one down for nine runs in three overs in response to India’s 185-run first innings total.
