For all the talent that elite athletes possess and the unfathomable amount of hard work they put into their work, genetics remain a significant factor in determining success. However, Ben Duckett showcased on Friday how where there is a will there is a way by taking an absolute blinder in Adelaide.
Adelaide Strikers put up a competitive total of 165/6 in their Big Bash League clash against the Melbourne Stars on Friday, largely on the back of D’Arcy Short’s explosive 42-ball 60. With the Australian at the crease, the side was well stationed at 114/3 with over five overs still to spare but the blitzkrieg died down post his departure, conjured by the athlete that is Ben Duckett.
Short looked to heave a full Peter Siddle over short midwicket midway through the 15th over and seemed to have connected well enough to send the white rock on its way to the boundary. Duckett, stationed within the ring, had seen the ball travelling quickly and put up a mammoth leap albeit a bit too quickly. Left with no other alternative, the Englishman bent his langs to hang in the air just enough that when he stuck out his right hand, the ball stuck to his palm like glue much to the amazement of his teammates.
Duckett himself was ecstatic with the effort as he wheeled away in celebration for what is bound to be one of the frontrunners for catch of the season.
