All time greats carry a certain aura that makes them impenetrable as is the case with Jasprit Bumrah. However, his supremacy was brutally challenged at the MCG on Boxing Day when adventurous rookoe Sam Konstas dispatched him innovative high risk shots of the highest order.
The Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground got off to a spicy start with a new protagonist on the scene in dehutant Sam Konstas. Having become Australia’s youngest ever Test opener, the 19-year-old immediately faced the challenge of facing the indisputable best bowler in the world Jasprit Bumrah snd he came out flying.
Konstas showcased his intentions early with an audacious attempted reverse scoop on the penultimate ball of the third over against an over the wicket delivery angling into the stumps. The ball zipped through without making contact and narrowly missed the stumps, bringing a smirk on Bumrah’s face. However, it was in the ace quick’s following over that havoc was wreaked. With three audacious scoops, each better than the last, Konstas scored two boundaries and a maximum, despite Bumrah tellong him it aas just “beginner’s luck.”
