In a blow to the South African team, Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the first Test against Bangladesh due to a left tricep muscle strain, as confirmed by Cricket South Africa. Despite his injury, Bavuma will travel with the squad to Dhaka where he will be under the medical team’s care, aiming for a return in the second Test. In his absence, Aiden Markram will serve as interim captain. Meanwhile, Dewald has been roped in as a cover for injured Bavuma.
Brevis impressed with scores of 49 and 74 for South Africa A against Sri Lanka A last month, has earned his first Test call-up. Brevis, who has represented Mumbai Indians in the IPL and played two T20Is for South Africa in 2023, has 12 first-class matches to his name.
Additionally, Nandre Burger will also miss the Bangladesh tour due to a lumbar stress fracture, with Lungi Ngidi named as his replacement.
The South African Test squad will gather for a red-ball camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria from October 12-14, ahead of the first Test, which begins on October 21 at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
