Test cricket is often a test of patience, perseverance, and determination. However, in some instances, some external factors have often interrupted the players’ approach with the latest being a feathery invader during the second day of the second Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
The Sri Lankan duo of Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis failed to extend their knock after touching the hundred-run mark as the former was dismissed in an attempt of a rash shot. Dhananjaya de Silva followed suit in a while but Kamindu Mendis stayed strong from one end to keep the Kiwis on the back foot. As the visitors toiled hard after Lunch, their efforts were briefly halted by a feathery guest leading Glenn Phillips to pull out from his run-up.
Having conceded just a single run off the first five balls in the 129th over, Phillips aimed to load the next ball in search of well-settled Kamindu’s wicket. As he was about to release the ball, he was halted due to a flying crow intercepting the pitch. The bird swerved across the pitch in the perfect moment to cause a derailment in the bowler’s run-up. While the intervention of birds in a cricket field is not rare, adding salt to their injury amidst intense toiling left the Twitterverse abuzz.

Glenn Phillips: Cricket’s Swiss Army knife, Started as wicketkeeper, evolving into pure batter & now blossoming a useful bowler & let’s not forget his sensational fielding – arguably the best in the business. As opener
Marsh as an opener. It will work if every game is against either Pakistan or Bangladesh. Don’t forget he was playing dots against part timer Glenn Phillips. Smith and Labuschagne need to bat at number 3 and 4 respectively
