Following a strong opening stand on the third day, Pakistan continued merry-making with nightwatchman Khurram Shahzad and Kamran Ghulam assisting well-set Shan Masood in the morning session. A 30 and 33-run stand steered Pakistan past the 300-run mark. Saud Shakeel and Masood played out the old ball until Lunch with a score of 312/3.
After three overs in the session with the worn-out Kookaburra, the duo of Kagiso Rabada and Kwena Maphaka struck with the second new ball as Masood and Shakeel departed in a space of three deliveries. However, the Proteas failed to capitalize on the exerted pressure as Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha consolidated a fifty-plus-run partnership. The right-handed pair played out the new ball with caution, steering Pakistan to 398/5 at Tea.
With 23 runs behind, the pair resumed proceeding with a similar approach and earned Pakistan the lead with a 98-run stand before Keshav Maharaj outsmarted Rizwan in the 110th over. Although the left-arm spinner created more opportunities to take wickets, the slip fielding disappointed. This allowed Aamer Jamal and Agha to add 34 runs together before Maharaj and Rabada cleared the clutter after the 115th over, curbing Pakistan to 478 runs.
Aiming for a target of 58 runs, David Bedingham opened the innings with Aiden Markram. After an observative couple of overs, the pair attacked the opposition to bring up quick runs. For a moment, a score of 51 in six overs felt like a powerplay score in a T20 game as the requisite seven runs
