Pant climbed in the latest ICC rankings, joining Yashasvi Jaiswal in the top six. The 26-year-old re-entered the rankings following a century in the second innings of India’s win over Bangladesh in Chennai. With 731 rating points, Pant trails Jaiswal, who has moved up to fifth with 751 points, largely due to his half-century in the first innings of the match.
India captain Rohit Sharma held on to his spot in the top ten despite slipping five places due to two modest scores, now sitting with 716 rating points. Virat Kohli also dropped five positions, falling out of the top ten to rank 12th in the standings.
Additionally, Shubman Gill moved up to a career-best 14th after his unbeaten 119 in the second innings, while Ravichandran Ashwin’s 113 lifted him seven spots to 72nd. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s 199-run partnership laid the foundation for a 280-run win, boosting both in the rankings. Jadeja rose to 37th in batting and Ashwin retained the top bowling spot after his six-wicket haul, while Jadeja climbed to sixth. In the all-rounder rankings, Jadeja secured a career-best 475 points, and Ashwin added 48 points, holding second place.
The Sri Lanka-New Zealand Test in Galle led to notable shifts in the rankings. Prabath Jayasuriya jumped five places to secure eighth in the bowling rankings after taking nine wickets. Kamindu Mendis advanced to 16th in the batting rankings, while Dhananjaya de Silva moved up five spots to 18th in the all-rounder standings, with 168 points.
In ODI cricket, Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Australia’s Travis Head entered the top 10 rankings. Gurbaz, at 23, became the first Afghan batter to break into the top 10, reaching eighth place after scoring his seventh ODI century.
