England Cricket have incurred a blow in their 2025 Champions Trophy squad after bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse has been ruled out due to a toe injury. Spin bowling all-rounder Rehan Ahmed has been summoned in the 15-man troop as a replacement with a couple of group stage matches remaining.
Carse played the first ODI against Australia where the Three Lions failed to defend 351 runs, ending on the wrong end of a historic chase. He scored eight runs from seven balls with the bat while picking the wicket of Alex Carey. However, the Durham-based was the most expensive of the English bowlers, leaking 69 runs in seven overs.
It has been confirmed that Carse suffered a toe injury and would not be able to participate in the short tourney. As a result, Rehan, who was a part of the squad in the three ODIs against India, has been called up as a reserve. In the six ODIs he featured so far, Rehan has bagged ten wickets and scored 35 runs.
However, the youngster is unlikely to feature in England’s playing XI against Afghanistan as Jamie Overton is the likely option to fill Carse’s void. Jamie is a like-for-like replacement for Carse and would add to their batting depth as well.
Currently, England are positioned third in the Group B standings with matches against Afghanistan and South Africa on queue.
