‌Rashid quits rumors on International retirement at 36

Rashid has put an end to the rumors circulating about his retirement from the international strata. The 36-year-old is the oldest member of the current squad that is shouldering arms against the Aussie setup. Although plenty of new faces and young guns earned their debut in the last three years, Rashid and Jofra Archer remains to be the two senior pros who were a part of the Three Lions World Cup winning squad in 2019.

“I have not thought about yet. Keep playing, enjoy it, stay fit, bowl well, contribute to wins, hopefully World Cups and Champions Trophies – that is my ultimate aim. I have not thought about retiring or calling it a day any time soon. I’m playing each game and each series as it comes and if I’m still enjoying it and performing well, I’ll keep carrying on.” Rashid said to the BBC.

The Yorkshire spinner recently surpassed the milestone of 200 wickets in ODI cricket during the ensuing five-match series against Australia. This serves as a great preparation for both teams ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy in February-March. Currently, the English side are reeling behind 2-0, having incurred defeats by seven wickets and 68 runs in Trent Bridge and Headingley respectively. With Jos Buttler yet to recover from injury, Harry Brook is leading the side for the first time since his ODI debut in January 2023.

England will be squaring off against Australia in the third ODI on September 24 at the Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street.
