PAK vs ENG | Twitter reacts as Babar nicks Atkinson peach to yet again depart cheaply under pressure

Pakistan were lefty staring at another defeat on Day 4 in Multan as they crumbled to 43/4 after conceding a first innings lead of 267 on the back of a Joe Root double century and Harry Brook’s triple ton. The hosts practically needed to navigate five sessions of play with the bat to avoid defeat, similar to what they had done in the first innings enroute to piling on 556 runs, but this time with the added pressure of being behind the game and that proved to be the Shaheens’ downfall. Abdullah Shafique’s departure on the first ball of the innings set the tone and the continuation of Babar Azam’s woeful run, that saw him last score a Ytest half-century two years ago when England last toured, effectively confirmed another record-extending home loss.

Babar walked out to bat in the ninth over and began woth trademark caution before caressing a boundary off Gus Atkinson in the 12th over to gain some confidence. However, that is as good as it got for the former skipper, as two deliveries later the right arm quick banged in a ball on length angling towards the stumps that nipped away just enough off the deck to take the outside edge and travel into the wicket-keeper’s gloves.

Babar, whose average now reads a dismal 43.92 compared to a peak of 49.25, was distraught at having failed once again and Twitterati was quick to rain in on the parade.
