Bhubaneswar: Odisha Well being Minister Naba Kishore Das on Tuesday made recent proposal to Union Well being Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to arrange the second All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) within the State at Sundergarh.

Das advised that the present infrastructures of a medical faculty and hospital at Sundergarh can be utilized for the institution of the second AIIMS. The infrastructures have been developed by the NTPC underneath company social duty (CSR) initiative for which it had signed an settlement with the State authorities.

“The mission work has already accomplished and at present procurement of medical tools is occurring. The medical faculty and hospital has amenities for therapy of 500 sufferers and consumption capability of 100 MBBS college students per yr,” Das wrote within the letter.

“This infrastructure could also be used for organising the second AIIMS. It would assist the residents of Western Odisha get fashionable healthcare amenities in their very own area,” Das added.

The Well being Minister additional mentioned the proposed website has ample highway and railway connectivity whereas the close by airport is in Jharsuguda.

The Minister mentioned the AIIMS at Bhubaneswar has emerged as one of many main institutes within the nation when it comes to medical schooling and high quality healthcare. Earlier in November 2020, former Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy had requested Union Well being Secretary Rajesh Bhushan to contemplate Odisha demand for the second AIIMS at Sankara in Sundergarh district.
