A plea by a lawyer has claimed incomplete rehabilitation of 26,561 displaced households
The Nationwide Human Rights Fee (NHRC) has requested the Odisha authorities to submit a report on non-receipt of compensation by individuals who have been displaced by the Hirakud Dam challenge — one of many oldest unresolved issues of displacement within the nation.

Human rights lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy had moved the NHRC drawing its consideration to incomplete rehabilitation of 26,561 households displaced for development of the Hirakud Dam challenge. The land for the mega challenge was acquired throughout 1952-53.
After the NHRC’s intervention, the Income Divisional Commissioner, Northern Division of Odisha, submitted that steps have been taken every now and then to redress grievances of the displaced households who belonged to 4 districts — Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Subarnapur.
“The problems with regard to DC [Deputy Commissioner] patta, fee of ex gratia, homestead land, settlement of agriculture land and fundamental facilities stand settled. As on date, no case of rehabilitation is pending,” the RDC had submitted to the NHRC.
