BCCI has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, set to begin in Gwalior on Sunday, October 6. Suryakumar Yadav will remain at the helm, but there will be no vice-captain due to Shubman Gill’s absence from the lineup. Additionally, none of the players from the Test squad were considered for selection, and Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Rishabh Pant have also been rested. Sanju Samson has been appointed as the primary keeper-batter, with Vidarbha’s Jitesh Sharma named as the backup.
Mayank Yadav has received his inaugural call-up to the national squad. Hailing from Delhi, he has been in the headlines after surpassing the 150 km/h mark during IPL 2024 while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants. Unfortunately, his tournament came to an early end due to injury. Since then, he has been rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
The squad sees the return of Varun Chakaravarthy, who has excelled in recent IPL seasons and is being recalled for the first time since the T20 World Cup 2021. There are several alterations to India’s T20 lineup from their last appearance in the format against Sri Lanka in July.
Sunrisers Hyderabad players Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy also make their return after missing the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Abhishek, who scored a century in his debut match in Zimbabwe, was not selected for the three T20Is in Sri Lanka.
