Suspicion around Virat Kohli’s participation in the ensuing Ranji Trophy has unfolded a new chapter with reports around Indian media stating that the veteran has suffered a neck sprain. While Rishabh Pant is set to captain the Delhi side, Kohli is subject to availability for their upcoming match.
As per a recent Times of India report, Kohli has taken injections and his participation in the Ranji Trophy matches is in jeopardy. However, as per a close source to DDCA, the Indian stalwart is likely to be added to the squad with ‘subject to availability’.
The Delhi team will leave on January 20, and it is likely to have a couple of practice sessions at Rajkot. It won’t be surprising if Kohli trains with the side even if he is not playing. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for the Ranji games against Saurashtra and Railways (at home).
Earlier, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) released a ten-point document where it cited the mandatory participation of centrally-contracted players in the domestic tournaments.
Participation in Domestic Matches is mandatory for players to remain eligible for selection in the national team,” the release read.
The Delhi side are currently placed fourth in the Ranji Trophy Group D table with 14 points from five games.
