Juventus are considering former player Igor Tudor as caretaker manager if Thiago Motta is sacked. Following back-to-back defeats to Atalanta and Fiorentina, Juve sit fifth in Serie A, with Bologna overtaking them. Tudor, previously Lazio manager and Pirlo’s assistant at Juve, could lead the team until season-end and the Club World Cup.
With the formation of uncertainty surrounding Thiago Motta’s future at Juventus, the club’s management is reportedly preparing for a possible coaching change. Juventus has suffered two consecutive heavy defeats against Atalanta and Fiorentina, dropping them to fifth place in Serie A, overtaken by Motta’s former side, Bologna. Despite public backing from Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli, reports suggest that Motta’s job is on the line if Juventus fails to deliver a positive result against Genoa after the international break.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Igor Tudor has emerged as the leading candidate to take over on an interim basis if Motta is dismissed. Tudor, a former Juventus defender with 110 appearances from the late 1990s to early 2000s, also served as Andrea Pirlo’s assistant during the 2020-21 season. He publicly criticized Juventus’ previous management for sacking their staff despite winning the Coppa Italia and securing Champions League qualification.
Tudor most recently managed Lazio but resigned after just three months at the end of the 2023-24 season. Juventus is reportedly considering him to steady the ship for the remainder of the season and potentially lead them into the Club World Cup this summer. The decision now hinges on the crucial match against Genoa.
