The Mumbai Indians have roped in the service of Mujeeb Ur Rahman for the forthcoming 2025 Indian Premier League season. The Afghanistan finger spinner will fill the void left by fellow national teammate Allah Ghazanfar, who has been ruled out of competitive cricket for four months.
Earlier, Ghazanfar was ruled out of the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan and UAE after incurring a fracture in the L4 vertebra. Following medical assessments, he will be out of action for the next four months, adding woes to the Afghanistan and Mumbai Indians camps.
During the mega-auction, the Ambani-owned franchise snared the mystery spinner for INR 4.80 crore. The 18-year-old has bucketed 30 wickets from 19 matches at an astounding bowling average of 13.50 and economy reading 6.12. He was clinical in the ODI series against South Africa where the Proteas batters failed to judge his variation. Undoubtedly, Ghazanfar would be a big miss for his national side and IPL franchise.
Moving on, the Mumbai-based side roped in an experienced IPL spinner in the form of Mujeeb. He returned to competitive cricket after being out of action for five months due to a right phalanx (hand) sprain. The right-arm spinner was seen rolling his arms in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, three T20Is against Zimbabwe, and the SA20 for Paarl Royals. However, Mujeeb was left out of the Champions Trophy after being advised by his doctor to focus on T20s for a while to ensure his full recovery before returning to ODIs”.
