In a fresh new update, Bumrah will not be able to feature for the Mahela Jayawardene-coached set-up in their next couple of tasks against the Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The Gujarat-born has yet to get a fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy’s Centre of Excellence.
Bumrah incurred a low-back stress injury during the penultimate day of the Border Gavaskar Trophy’s fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Right after, he missed the 2025 Champions Trophy despite being on the provisional squad. Initially, Ajit Agarkar, the Chairman of Selectors, said it would take the lead pacer at least five weeks to get back to fitness. However, Bumrah expressed discomfort following rehabilitation, causing a delayed arrival.
As per the latest reports, Bumrah, who was set to be available from the LSG game, will further be assessed before making a full-fledged return to International cricket. It is also understood that the right-arm pacer has started to increase his bowling workload and sets sights on the five Tests against England in the English Summer.
In the 31-year-old’s absence, the five-time champions offered debuts to uncapped stars like Satyanarayana Raju, Vignesh Puthur, and Ashwani Kumar. Puthur picked a three-fer already while Ashwani bucketed a four-wicket haul in their last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
