Lionel Messi talks about his toughest challenge on field, not naming his long-term rival Sergio Ramos in the same. He also named Cristian “Cuti” Romero as the best defender currently playing for Argentina, highlighting his form.

Lionel Messi, currently playing for Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer, was asked about the toughest competitor he had on field and it’s answer has shocked several football fans. It was expected that the legendary footballer would name his long-term rival Sergio Ramos but the answer was completely different.

Ever since his arrival to football, Lionel Messi has gone against several popular names such as Sergio Ramos, Paolo Maldini, Marcelo, Virgil van Dijk, and Rio Ferdinand. But it was also seen that none of them was able to trouble him when he was full set on the attack.

Talking about the best defender currently in football, Lionel Messi named his teammate of Argentina, Cristian “Cuti” Romero. He also talked about his excellent performances in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, also giving some exceptional saves for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

It was also revealed that Messi had his toughest challenge in the game while playing for Barcelona in 2017. Pablo Maffeo, who then played for Girona on a loan, put forward tons of challenges to Lionel Messi, as he was chasing him continuously on the pitch. This prevented Messi from scoring goals, as Luis Suarez was the only one from the team to score one.
