All India Football Federation takes a look at the chances to increase the limits of foreign players for the Indian Women’s League. The tournament is set to start on January 10, with Odisha FC going against East Bengal in the first game.
The President of All India Football Federation, Kalyan Chaubey, said that they are looking forward to increasing the limits of foreign players in the Indian Women’s League. This could further help them to boost the Indian Women’s League to a global stage, as more foreign players could participate.
This tournament has seen a lot of evolution when it comes to the participation of foreign players. When the first edition of the Indian Women’s League was played, no foreign player was featured in the tournament. However, this changed in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, as permission was given to the teams for foreign players. But, they will only be able to have two players in the matchday squad and one in the starting line-up of the team.
The All India Football Federation brought down some more changes to the same in the 2022-23 season, increasing the limit to three foreign players. Out of these, only two players were allowed to be on the pitch at the same time. This further continued in the 2023-24 season also, but it looks likely to be changed in the upcoming season.
The upcoming Indian Women’s League is set to begin on January 10, 2025, as Odisha FC will be going against East Bengal at the Kalinga Stadium.
