Indian Sports Live, August 29: Paris Paralympics begins; Bopanna-Ebden in US Open action


Hello and welcome to ESPN India’s daily blog, where we bring you all the updates from the dynamic world of Indian sports, including news, scores, schedule, results and commentary.

After a very busy fortnight with the Paris Olympics and a quiet week thereafter, action is picking up again. There’s also the build-up to the Paralympic Games, which begins tonight in Paris, with the Opening Ceremony.


What’s on today?

  • Paralympic Games: The Paris 2024 Paralympics begins with Aruna Tanwar in action in para taekwondo [K44-47kg], while Jyoti Gaderiya will aim for a spot in the medal rounds of the para cycling C1-3 3000m individual pursuit. Here’s our dedicated blog for India at the Paralympics.

  • Tennis: India’s Rohan Bopanna, seeded second with partner Matthew Ebden, is in action at the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year.

  • Chess: India’s D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhaa are in action at the Sinquefield Cup tournament in Saint Louis

  • Table Tennis: India’s domestic league- Ultimate Table Tennis – continues in Chennai.

What happened yesterday?

  • Hockey: Hockey India named an 18-member team for the Asian Champions Trophy scheduled to begin in China from 8th September.

  • Paralympic Games: The Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympics game was held.
