There are rare moments in cricket where players showcase their intellect, creating unforgettable highlights. Such was the case with Ravichandran Ashwin on the third day of the Test between India and New Zealand, where he displayed exceptional technique to save himself from being bowled.
Ravindra Jadeja began the day’s bowling attack and dismissed Patel, ending New Zealand’s innings at 174 runs. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal cautiously approached their target of 147 runs but lost Rohit early, leading to a quick collapse as Ajaz Patel took three key wickets. India was in trouble at 41/5 but a partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant brought some hope, raising the score to 66/5 before Jadeja fell. Pant scored 64 runs off 57 balls, but his dismissal left India in a precarious position after lunch, needing 55 runs to win with the score at 92/6. But a hilarious unfolded when Ravichandran Ashwin hilariously saved his wicket and leaving the visitors in awe.
On the third ball of the 27th over, Glenn Phillips bowled a fuller delivery outside off stump. Ravichandran Ashwin prodded forward, blocking it with soft hands, causing the ball to roll back toward the stumps. In a moment of quick thinking, Ashwin looked back and attempted to stop the ball, nearly dislodging the bails in the process. Fortunately, the ball gently brushed against the stumps, but the bails remained intact as Ashwin managed to halt the momentum of the red cherry. The Kiwi side was left stunned by the near miss, while Ashwin breathed a sigh of relief. Twitter quickly buzzed with commentary on Ashwin’s clever tactics and his ability to escape a precarious situation.Clever Ash anna!
