‌IND vs ENG | Twitter reacts to Gambhir and McCullum’s warm embrace turns back time at Eden Gardens

Few cricket grounds in the Indian subcontinent are as memorable as the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Talk about memories etched with the venue, head coaches of opposite teams, Gautam Gambhir and Brendon McCullum turned back time with warm embraces during the Drinks Break in the first T20I.

The ploy to capitalise on the moisture prevalent on the pitch and field first worked wonders for Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav as Arshdeep Singh struck early with the new ball. Although Jos Buttler’s fifty kept the game hung in balance, he fell short of partners from the other end with the score reading 74/4 in ten overs. This is when the head coaches of both sides strolled onto the field, and gained attention amidst run of play.

India were comparatively ahead in the game with Jacob Bethall failing to pick Indian spinners, building pressure on his partner. As they engaged in an interaction during the refreshment break, McCullum was seen heading towards the Indian huddle. Soon, Gambhir from the opposite side walked up to his former Kolkata Knight Riders teammate and hugged each other before shaking hands. The heartfelt interaction made way for huge cheers from the Eden crowd, who are living witness to their huge attachment to Kolkata’s iconic cricketing franchise, sending the Twitterverse into guffaws.

Nostalgic moment in Kolkata
