Suryakumar Yadav had luck during the toss and elected to field first, trying to capitalise on the thin tinge of grass and moisture. Arshdeep Singh, who has been a part of Champions Trophy selection discussions in the media, took the new ball and immediately let his actions speak for himself.
After an in-swinger and out-swinger to kick off the proceedings at the Eden Gardens, Arshdeep surprised Phil Salt with a back of a length delivery at the stumps. The sudden extra bounce squared up the wicketkeeper-batter who got his blade in a weird position facing the ball. He incurred a top-edge and the ball rocketed upwards before Sanju Samson sprinted towards it and vouchsafed it comfortably. The same Eden Gardens that rooted for Salt in KKR colours few months ago, erupted with applause for the left-arm pacer, prompting the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
