India recovered well after a formidable start from England in the second ODI to restrict the visitors to 105/2 in 16 overs after they had managed 75 in the powerplay without any loss. The early aggression allowed Joe Root and Harry Brook to dig in deep during their 66-run stand against some top tier bowling from the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Harshit Rana, the latter ultimately scalping Brook to seize momentum back for the hosts. However, the youngster evidently got too caught up in the moment and it culminated in some stern words and looks from the team’s senior contingent.
With Jos Buttler new to the crease, Rana began the 32nd over of the match with an absolute jaffa that striahgtened off the deck and whizzed past the bat. The next three balls did not beget any runs either for the England skipper and the pressure was evidently mounting. Nevertheless, Buttler excercised restraint to defend the penultimate ball as well, knowing little he was about to be gifted four runs. As the ball rolled down the pitch after meeting Buttler’s willow, Rana without warning picked up the Kookaburra and slung it towards the stumps with vengeance even as Buttler returned to his crease. Unfortunately for the young quick, the throw was wary and went past KL Rahul for a boundary, thus spoiling what otherwise would have been a maiden over. The regret was immediately evident on Rana’s face as Ravindra Jadeja placed his face in his palms while an exasperated Hardik Pandya shot a bewildered look, but none of that deterred Rohit Sharma from inflicting further misery on the youngster. He walked up to Rana with purpose and pointing to the brain asked Rana had any, and the pacer could no little apart from sheepishly smile and get on with his work.
