Green Park stand declared unsafe ahead of India-Bangladesh Test match

‌The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) has classified one of the stands at Green Park Stadium as hazardous, indicating it may not safely accommodate the full crowd expected for the Test match. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, the C stand, one of the stadium’s oldest structures, has been under repair for the past two days. Although the upper block can seat 4,800 fans, only a limited number of seats will be made available for sale based on PWD’s recommendations.

This decision underscores the seriousness of the PWD’s concerns. Engineers conducted extensive inspections of the stand and cautioned that it might not bear the weight of fans, especially during moments of heightened excitement in the match.

Venue director Sanjay Kapoor noted, “Whenever an event takes place, government departments carry out their assessments. Approximately 1,750 seats in the upper block remain open for spectators.”

In their previous match at Green Park, India faced New Zealand, where a last-wicket partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel resulted in a dramatic draw, influenced by poor visibility during the final session of Day 5.

The Kanpur Test is set to commence on Friday, with India aiming to secure a series victory after their impressive 280-run win in the Chennai Test last week.
