In what would offer a significant fillip to the transport fleet of the Indian Air Pressure, the Cupboard Committee on Safety (CCS) on Wednesday cleared procurement of 56 transport plane from Airbus. The deal to purchase the C-295MW transport plane is anticipated to value upwards of Rs 20,000 crore.
Whereas the primary 16 of those plane will likely be delivered in flyaway situation from Spain, inside 48 months of the contract being signed, the remaining 40 will likely be manufactured in India by a consortium led by the Tata Group over 10 years, the Defence Ministry mentioned in a press release.
The ministry mentioned that it’ll make it the first-of-its-kind deal within the nation. All plane will likely be put in with the indigenous Digital Warfare Suite, it acknowledged.
C-295MW is a transport plane of 5-10 tonne capability with modern expertise that can change the ageing Avro plane of the IAF, the federal government mentioned, including that it has a rear ramp door for fast response and para-dropping of troops and cargo.
The Defence Ministry known as it a “distinctive initiative to strengthen indigenous capabilities”. The fleet will change the Avro plane of the Air Pressure, that are British-origin twin-engine turboprop, navy transport and freighter with a 6-tonne freight capability.
The ministry acknowledged that it’ll purchase the transport plane from Airbus Defence and Area S.A., Spain.
“Sixteen plane will likely be delivered in flyaway situation from Spain inside 48 months of signing of the contract and forty plane will likely be manufactured in India by TATA Consortium inside ten years of signing of the contract,” the assertion mentioned. “That is the primary mission of its type by which a navy plane will likely be manufactured in India by a personal firm. All fifty-six plane will likely be put in with indigenous Digital Warfare Suite.
The deal has been a few decade within the making.
An Airbus spokesperson mentioned: “Airbus welcomes the choice of the Cupboard Committee on Safety on the procurement of 56 C-295 plane and appears ahead to signing and executing the contract collectively with the Tata Group.”
