Khelo India Scheme
Launched in 2018, the Khelo India Scheme is a flagship initiative to rejuvenate sports culture in India.
It focuses on identifying and nurturing young talent by offering infrastructure, training, and financial support.
The scheme includes the Khelo India Youth Games for athletes aged eight to 18, and also backs sports academies, grassroots programs, and the development of sports facilities across the nation.
Fit India Movement
The Fit India Movement, launched on August 29, 2019, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, promotes healthier lifestyles through activities like yoga, running, and sports.
The initiative aims to make fitness accessible and enjoyable, emphasizing mental well-being.
It encourages indigenous sports, spreads fitness awareness across villages, colleges, and universities, and motivates citizens to share personal fitness stories, driving a nationwide focus on physical health.
Target Olympic Podium Scheme
The Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) was launched to boost India’s Olympic performance by supporting elite athletes with medal potential.
TOPS provides financial aid, specialized training, coaching, and logistical support, covering expenses for training camps, equipment, and international competitions.
The scheme’s goal is to help athletes reach their peak performance and succeed on the global stage.
Special Area Games Scheme
The Special Area Games (SAG) Scheme focuses on identifying and nurturing sports talent from tribal, rural, and coastal areas with specific physical and genetic traits advantageous for particular sports.
Launched by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the scheme provides specialized training, modern facilities, and educational support to young athletes, aiming to develop them into national and international sports champions.
National Sports Talent Search Scheme
The National Sports Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS) was launched on August 28, 2017, to identify and develop young athletes aged eight to 12.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the scheme aims to discover talent in schools, colleges, and universities.
Successful students in the Physical Efficiency and Sports Aptitude Test (PESAT) are admitted to Sports Authority of India’s training centers.
