Farmers’ protests: WFTU asks ILO to take action against India

The World Federation of Commerce Unions, an umbrella organisation of varied commerce unions internationally, has written to Worldwide Labour Organisation (ILO) looking for its intervention within the farmers’ protest.

In a letter, the WFTU has argued that the Authorities of India is ill-treating the protesting farmers and agriculture employees and that it’s a violation of ILO conventions C011 (Proper of Affiliation (Agriculture) Conference), C098 (Proper to Organise and Collective Bargaining Conference), C141 (Rural Employees’ Organisations Conference) and C144 (Tripartite Session (Worldwide Labour Requirements) Conference).

India is a signatory in these conventions.

The WFTU secretariat stated within the letter that it desires to deliver ILO’s consideration to the “week-lasting merciless angle of the Indian authorities and the authoritarian therapy of the farmers who’re demanding the repeal of the three Farm Acts.”
