CSK vs KKR | Narine, Chakaravarthy wreck CSK as Dhoni’s captaincy return turns nightmare

‌A packed Chepauk roared as Mahendra Singh Dhoni walked out for the toss, only to lose it to Ajinkya Rahane. The decision to field first worked well as Moeen Ali and Harshit Rana scalped Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra within the powerplay. With Vijay Shankar and Rahul Tripathi at the crease, Chennai balanced themselves with 31/2 at the end of the powerplay. As the duo was looking good in building a partnership, Varun Chakaravarthy took the wicket of Shankar with the scorecard at 61/3 at the halfway mark. The woe continued to persist as Sunil Narine took the wicket of Tripathi in the 11th over. With new batters Shivam Dube and Ravichandran Ashwin at the crease, the hosts were reeling at 65/4. Things were getting difficult for CSK as Ashwin too departed cheaply in the 13th over with the yellow army waiting for some firepower. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Hooda added more troubles getting out cheaply with the scorecard at 72/7 in 14.2 overs. A dejected Chepauk crowd had their moment of cheer when Dhoni walked to bat at number nine. But the roar was short-lived as he departed, scoring just one run in four deliveries. However, towards the end of the innings, Dube’s 31 off 29 helped CSK cross the hundred-run mark as they posted 103/9 in 20 overs.

In response to a meagre total, KKR openers Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine were off to a cracking start as they accelerated to 34/0 in just three overs. De Kock was dismissed in the fifth over, but that didn’t slow things down as Ajinkya Rahane joined Narine and kept the momentum going. The pair continued to attack the CSK bowlers and found boundaries with ease and rotating the strike efficiently. At the end of the powerplay, KKR raced to 71/1, leaving just 33 runs needed from 14 overs. Although Narine fell soon after for a quick-fire knock, his dismissal did little to derail the chase. Rahane stitched a calm and composed stand with Rinku Singh, who looked assured at the crease. The duo guided KKR home without any further hiccups, wrapping up the chase in just 10.1 overs, as KKR sealed a dominant eight-wicket victory and silenced the Chepauk crowd.

 TUK TUK!
