Big setback for Team India as Mohammed Shami’s injury delayed by knee issues

Mohammed Shami IND vs NZ Wankhede semi CWC

‌As the red-ball season approaches for Team India, news has emerged that Mohammad Shami will require additional time to recover from his injury. According to a report by the Times of India, Shami is now dealing with a swollen knee, which is expected to take another six to eight weeks to heal.

There were hopes that the star pacer would return to national duty for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in November; however, this recent development has left fans concerned.

As per the report, “ Shami had resumed bowling and he was looking on track to make a comeback to competitive cricket soon. But this knee injury has flared up recently. BCCI’s medical team is assessing the injury but it may require quite a bit of time.”

The report further states that the Indian team management has been diligent in managing the workload of their top fast bowlers, including Bumrah and Shami. Both were anticipated to spearhead the attack in Australia; however, neither Bumrah nor Shami has played five consecutive Test matches recently.

The Rohit Sharma-led side is set to host New Zealand for a three-match Test series in October-November, after which they will travel to Australia for a five-match Test series.
