Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones says he never used his own urine for NFL drug tests

Former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones revealed in an interview with Deion Sanders that he never used his own urine during league drug tests.

Appearing on Tuesday’s episode of Tubi’s “We Got Time,” a talk show hosted by Sanders and Rocsi Diaz, Jones talked about life after his retirement from the NFL in 2019 and his marijuana advocacy.

During the conversation, Jones — who played a majority of his NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals and whose time in the league was marred by off-field controversies — shared how he managed to continue using marijuana throughout his time in the pros without getting caught.

“Yeah, I cheated the program. Like, I was really good,” Jones said. “People don’t know how smart I am. I’ve never used my piss for a piss test. Not one time.”

Sanders, himself a former NFL star and current coach of the University of Colorado football team, responded by pointing out that avoiding drug tests “can’t happen today” because the system has become much stricter.

Jones quickly pushed back. “It can happen if you know what you’re doing,” he told Sanders. “Don’t say it can’t happen, pop. Hey pop, don’t say it can’t happen.”

Before Jones could go into detail about his methods, Sanders shut him down.

Looking beyond his own experience, Jones argued that sports leagues should no longer test for marijuana, as he does not see it as a performance-enhancing drug.

Jones referenced an incident last month where Olympic boxer Claressa Shields was suspended after testing positive for trace amounts of marijuana after taking a saliva test.

“So where I’m at with it, I don’t think no sport should be testing for THC and I’m a big advocate of it.”

The NFL announced in Dec. 2024 that they would modify their substance abuse policy, which included increasing the THC levels for what is considered a positive test. The levels increased from 150 ng/ml (nanograms per milliliter) to 350 ng/ml, according to a memo obtained by the Associated Press.
