‌WATCH, BBL | Philippe’s failed attempt at Rashid’s snake shot lands over the ropes

A trendsetter often trails the path to unleash new ways of doing things. Rashid Khan’s snake shot is one such stroke that leaves the spectators in awe, and Josh Philippe happened to replicate a similar one during the Big Bash League encounter between the Sydney Sixers and the Brisbane Heat.

Winning the toss and electing to field first, the Sydney Sixers conceded 25 runs inside the mandatory powerplay for the loss of Tom Banton’s wicket. The middle order faltered except for Nathan McSweeney, who was the team’s highest rungetter with 34. However, some late blitz from Paul Walter propelled the defending champions to 138/8 in 20 overs. In response, Josh Philippe offered a great start to the Sixers despite losing out on his partner James Vince. At one point in time, the wicketkeeper-batter took a leaf out of Rashid Khan’s playbook that resembled the snake shot.

On the last ball of the seventh over, Mitchell Swepson bowled a fuller delivery from over the wicket near the leg stump to Philippe. The right-hander shimmied down the ground and adjusted to the angled-in delivery by emulating a snake shot over a fine of long on for a six. The execution didn’t quite seem spot on but the ball managed to land over the ropes. Philippe had to fetch it from outside the line, almost like a semi-helicopter shot, forced by the bottom hand.
