The genre-bending musical “Emilia Pérez,” postwar epic “The Brutalist” and the Vatican-set potboiler “Conclave” dominated the list of nominees in film for the 82nd Golden Globes announced early Monday, officially kicking off Hollywood’s awards season.

In the best drama film category, “The Brutalist” and “Conclave” were joined by the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” the science-fiction spectacle “Dune: Part Two,” the literary adaptation “Nickel Boys” and the 1972-set thriller “September 5.”

In the best comedy or musical film race, “Emilia Pérez,” which snagged a leading 10 nods, competes with the madcap romance “Anora,” the steamy love triangle “Challengers,” the family dramedy “A Real Pain,” the body-horror satire “The Substance” and the smash musical hit “Wicked.”

(“Wicked” and “Conclave” were released by units of NBC News’ parent company, NBCUniversal.)

Globes voters also recognize achievement in television. This year, leading contenders include FX’s “Shōgun,” a sweeping saga set in feudal Japan, and FX’s “The Bear,” a frenetic portrait of a Chicago restaurant. Both series are critical favorites.

The nominees across 27 categories were announced at 8:15 a.m. ET by actors Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut. The awards telecast is scheduled for Jan. 5 live on CBS and the streaming service Paramount+, with stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser set to host.

In addition to the usual procession of trophies and speeches, this year’s Globes will honor small-screen mainstay Ted Danson with the Carol Burnett Award, a prize recognizing someone who has “made outstanding contributions to television on or off screen.”

Oscar-winning actor Viola Davis is also set to be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
