LAHORE: Pakistan and Sri Lanka emerged victorious in their respective opening matches on the first day of the Blind World Cup, held at various venues across the city on Saturday.

At the Ghani Institute of Cricket Ground, Pakistan secured a commanding eight-wicket win over South Africa. Opting to bat first, South Africa posted a modest total of 129 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs.

Lesedi Lesufi was the standout performer for South Africa, top-scoring with 24 runs, while Edrich Ter Haa contributed 17. For Pakistan, Babar Ali was the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets.

In response, Pakistan chased down the target with ease in just 10.3 overs, losing two wickets in the process. Opener Naimatullah played a blistering knock of 59 off 31 balls, which included nine boundaries and a six. Zafar provided valuable support, contributing 33 runs. Debutant Talha, from the B3 category, also featured in the match.

Meanwhile, at Saeed Sports City, Sri Lanka defeated Nepal by 70 runs in a dominant performance. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted an imposing total of 195 for four in 20 overs, largely due to a scintillating unbeaten 100 from opener Damith Sandaruwan. Maduwantha chipped in with 23 runs.

Nepal’s chase faltered as they managed to score only 125 for eight in their allotted overs. Durga Datta was the top scorer for Nepal with 24 runs, while Naresh added 23 to the total.
