When expectations are high, and a player fails to deliver, it often leaves fans heartbroken. Such was the case on the first day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Indian star Virat Kohli was left bewildered by Josh Hazlewood’s extra bounce, departing for a low score and leaving the fans heartbroken.
Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul took the crease, with Mitchell Starc opening the attack after India won the toss. The pace and bounce of the Perth pitch were evident from the first delivery, which went down the leg for a four. Australia soon made their breakthrough when Starc dismissed Jaiswal for a duck in the third over, leaving India at 5/1. With Shubman Gill injured, Karnataka’s Devdutt Padikkal came in at number three, but after a fiery spell from Starc and Josh Hazlewood, it was Pat Cummins who claimed the next breakthrough, sending Padikkal back for a duck on 23 balls, leaving India at a precarious 18/2 after 12 overs as the crowd awaited Virat Kohli’s arrival. But things didn’t go well for Kohli thereafter.
On the second ball of the 17th over, Hazlewood dished a short of a length delivery which was pitched outside the off.
Oh hell no!
On the moon
The TV commentators spent the whole of Virat Kohli’s innings talking him up like they’d been on the moon for the past five years and not seen him bat in that time.
