Overnight batters Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mushfiqur Rahim resumed play on the third day. However, their 46-run partnership was broken early when Kagiso Rabada dismissed Joy in the 32nd over. Shortly after, Rahim was out as well, leaving Bangladesh to regroup with two new batters at the crease. Litton Das failed to make an impact, bringing Jaker Ali to the crease alongside Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The pair built a solid partnership, advancing the score to 195/6, with Miraz notching his ninth Test fifty. At lunch, Bangladesh stood at 201/6, just two runs shy of taking the lead.
The partnership between Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Jaker Ali remained solid as they pushed the score to 234/6 in 72 overs. Jaker reached his maiden Test half-century, giving Bangladesh a 33-run lead. However, their impressive 138-run stand came to an end when Keshav Maharaj dismissed Jaker. Soon after, dark clouds loomed over Dhaka, and heavy rain forced the players off the field. At the break, Bangladesh was 267/7 with a 65-run lead, prompting an early tea as the rain persisted.
Play resumed after tea with Nayeem Hasan and Miraz taking the score to 283/7. However, the dark clouds returned, and play was halted once again due to bad light. With little chance of resuming, the day’s play was called off, leaving Bangladesh with an 81-run lead.
