Reliance Jio is expanding beyond its roots as a telecom brand, making a move into the home entertainment space.. During the Annual General Meeting, which took place virtually on August 29, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Infocomm Limited, announced a suite of new products and features that aim to transform the entertainment and connected home experience in India. Ambani announced the JioTV OS, JioHome, and JioTV+ to take home entertainment and smart living to new heights. Here is everything that was announced at the Reliance Jio Annual General meeting.
JioTV OS
Jio is set to introduce JioTV OS, a fully home-grown operating system designed exclusively for the Jio Set-Top Box (STB). Akash Ambani highlighted how this new OS is tailored to provide a faster, smoother, and more personalized experience for users. It supports high-end features like Ultra HD 4K video, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos, ensuring cinema-like quality in the comfort of your living room.
JioTV OS isn’t just about an enhanced user interface. It is an entire ecosystem that brings together all your favorite apps, live TV, and shows into one seamless platform, according to the announcements made at AGM. The OS is integrated with the popular Hello Jio voice assistant, now powered by advanced Generative AI technologies. This upgrade allows users to search for content across various apps using simple voice commands like, “Hello Jio, find action movies,” or “Open Netflix.” The improved Hello Jio also supports voice commands for controlling the Jio STB, making it a truly hands-free experience.
JioHome
JioHome is set to make Indian homes smarter and more connected with its new IoT (Internet of Things) solutions. Akasg announced that IoT is the future of smart homes, allowing for seamless integration of devices like lights, air conditioners, and security systems. Imagine your air conditioner turning on as you enter a room or your lights dimming automatically when you start a movie—JioHome IoT solutions make this possible.
These solutions are fully integrated with JioTV OS. This means that all smart devices in the home work together effortlessly. JioHome also supports the latest Matter standard, which ensure compatibility across different smart devices. The JioHome app will serve as the control center for this ecosystem, offering features like malware detection and guest Wi-Fi management, ensuring both convenience and security.
JioTV+
JioTV+ will change how users consume digital entertainment. It combines live TV, on-demand shows, and apps into a single, easy-to-use platform. With access to over 860 live TV channels and content from leading OTT apps like Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar, JioTV+ offers a vast library of entertainment. One of its standout features is the ability to switch between channels faster than ever, ensuring you never miss a moment of your favorite shows.
What truly sets JioTV+ apart is its powerful recommendation engine, which provides personalized content suggestions based on your viewing habits. The platform also offers a Catch-up TV feature, allowing users to go back up to seven days to catch up on missed shows. Additionally, the upcoming Play-Pause feature will let users pause live TV and resume whenever they are ready.
JioTV+ users can pull up stats during a live cricket match, buy tickets, or switch camera angles without interrupting the action. Social features allow users to share what they are watching with friends, join live watch parties, and discuss shows in real-time, making TV a more connected and interactive experience.
